Spring

Designing Patterns
May 3, 10 & 17 ---- 9-5

patterndescimage.jpg
We'll do this one and other masterpieces!

There are primarily two ways to create patterns - by draping on the form or by developing the shape of the pattern in paper on a table. Both methods are necessary to have a convenient, working knowledge of pattern design.

Most clothing designs are a combination and one is often faster than the other, depending on the design. This course goes through all the basics of paper pattern development and also includes learning how to analyze a photograph so that you will be able to make a pattern from a photo of the garment.

Additional topics include copying ready to wear and personal fitting adjustments -- and, of course, lots of vintage-inspired designs. For those without pattern making knowledge, this course is a prerequisite to Computer Pattern Making, which will be scheduled in the near future.

A materials fee of $20 is collected in class. Registration #: 55024 (SEWN 825).

Wrap Yourself a Dress
June 21 & June 28, 2 Saturdays, 9 - 4:30.

wrapdresssari.jpg

You thought that gorgeous sari you've had for ages had no future! Not so . . . those saris can work many ways and there are several stores in Berkeley that sell fabulous ones. We'll go through all the options! Plus, all the ways a sarong, in a zillion different fabrics, can happen.

This course is based upon the concept of ultimate efficiency in a multi-purpose wardrobe; all garments are formed from a single piece of flat cloth -- beyond the sarong! Possibilities range from packing flat for travel to instant clothes for all occasions. Each fabric acts differently, changing the design that is wrapped on the body and enabling the wearer to go from full to fitted, short or long, layered or one-piece. Sewing only involves finishing the edges and you're done. A wide variety of designs for each figure will be covered and each student will receive a booklet of instructions for wrapping. Please email the instructor for a supply list. See email address below. A materials fee of $20 will be collected in class. Call 253-3070 X 1303 to Register. #55753.

PWStudio Software and Course Information

On May 31st there will be an advanced follow-up class to the one offered in the spring for enrollees of the spring class. The class will be held at Sandy Ericson's studio at her home. Please email her at: info@AntiquityPress.com if you are interested in further information.

PWStudio has come out with the the upgrade!!

It is wonderful. Now you can scan in pictures, logos, prints, patterns from books and instruction sheets into Adobe Photoshop and move them into PWStudio2 -- no digitizing! -- work on them and then save them in many formats to be used in other programs for illustration, printing, etc. The program is now much more intuitive with lots of new features.

Easy to learn screen -- no surprises!
PWStudio software is the best computer-aided design program for apparel for home or small business use available today. With over 500 pre-made sloper patterns for women, children and men's clothing, the program can develop patterns for a wide range of sizes and fit. The program can also aid in creating patterns for non-apparel items that require a paper layout or shape, anything from shoes to awnings, including non-textile products.

For business applications, PWStudio can handle the demands of a small business up to approximately 5 million in sales. It can archive customer accounts, create cutting markers for mass production and patterns can be emailed to distant manufacturing locations. It is a great way to start a small sewn-product manufacturing business.

Basic PC computer skills are a prequisite to this course. The course will be taught in 4-day sequence using the 30-day demo.

At the completion of the course, students qualify to purchase the non-time-limited program at an extremely generous group discount and additonal courses can be arranged. The instructor is not commercially affiliated with the software manufacturer.

See Contact page and email me If you are interested in learning PWStudio. I will schedule a class if there are 4 or more people interested.
